Our series of Fragrance Rituals uncovers the deep, personal connections we form with scent. Each article delves into the intimate moments where scent becomes memory, emotion, and identity — uncovering how fragrance shapes and enhances the everyday. Through these rituals, we invite you to experience scent as a form of self-expression and sensory storytelling.
In this latest edition, we interviewed Shaylie Roach, the Content and Communications Director at Lee Mathews – someone whose days are shaped by creativity, storytelling and a deep appreciation for the small rituals that make life feel beautiful. Her work brings together everything she loves about art and design, and she describes it as something of a dream – each day surrounded by pieces that are thoughtful, tactile, and made with intention. Outside of work, her rhythm softens into books, writing, and long mornings spent at her local café. She reads for an hour before heading into the day – a quiet ritual that gives her space to arrive slowly and clearly.
Weekends are often filled with food and wine, something woven into her life since childhood. With parents in the wine world, she grew up around it, and now she and her partner curate a small selection of bottles each month. They spend time visiting restaurants with friends, trying new varieties, and learning as they go – a shared project that feels both grounding and joyful.
Fragrance has always been a natural part of her world. She’s drawn to the way scents can shift a moment or capture a feeling. For her, fragrance isn’t just personal; it’s something that moves with the seasons. It’s jasmine on a spring walk with her dog, garlic softening in a pan while her partner cooks, or a glass of buttery Chardonnay at the end of the day. Over time, her love of scent has only deepened, and she now gravitates toward richer, more complex notes that fill a space and settle there.
Her daily rituals reflect this connection. Lightly scented skincare opens and closes her day, while weekends often involve a candle or a stick of incense burning softly in the background. Her home is important to her – a place she nurtures – and scent helps it feel calm and inviting. These moments make her feel content, grounded, and entirely herself.
Wearing Céder carries that same familiarity. To her, it’s a sexy, confident fragrance – something that feels aligned and true. It brings back memories of getting ready in her studio apartment during the early days of dating her partner, choosing scents that made her feel beautiful before stepping out the door.
She’s consistently drawn to musky florals, vanilla and tobacco – warm, textured notes that feel like home. In the warmer months she shifts slightly toward cleaner, lighter scents, but always returns to something grounding at the base.
Fragrance is one of the ways Shaylie moves through the world with intention – a subtle but constant thread that helps her shape her days, her space, and her sense of self.
